I look ahead to all the plans that we made
and the dreams that we had
I'm in a world that tries to take 'em away
Oh, but I'm taking 'em back

When I hear the name Cincinnati, the first thing I think about is the sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati
with Howard Hesseman and Loni Anderson. I also think about the Cincinnati Reds or Bengals, The American Girls
Kit Kittredge series, Oktoberfest Zinzinnati, Proctor & Gamble – home of Ivory soap - and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and his "Catawba Wine." The poem was so embraced by the residents they started calling their city "Queen."
But Queen is not the featured song or band for this article. It is "It's Not My Time" by 3 Doors Down that has my attention and focus.
This song was originally written for the film Poseidon
by lead singer Brad Arnold, but for some reason it was never used. I think that's a shame, because it's one of my favorite songs by this band. However, 3 Doors Down didn't need the movie to have this song push them into another stratosphere with the release of the video, filmed in the great city of Cincinnati, Ohio.
The video, shot on April Fool's Day in 2008, tells the story of a guardian angel (Gabriel Nunez of the free-running outfit team Tempest), a tough-looking street kid having a vision of an auto accident that kills a mother and her small daughter. The time backs up for a few minutes, during which he races through the great city of Cincinnati in a mad dash to save the unsuspecting victims. In this video, we see a sample of the great architecture Cincinnati has to offer.
One of the first scenes has our angel standing on top of a skyscraper looking down the neighborhood called Over-the-Rhine, or as sometimes shortened to OTR. This neighborhood is believed to be the largest urban historic district in the United States. It contains the largest collection of Italianate architecture in the U.S, even being compared to the French Quarter in New Orleans, Louisiana, and the historic districts of Savannah, Georgia, Charleston, South Carolina, and Greenwich Village, New York City. That's quite an achievement and testament to its authenticity. OTR was voted the best Cincinnati neighborhood in CityBeat
's "Best of Cincinnati" issues for 2011 and 2012.

As the beautiful song progresses and our guardian angel jumps off buildings, over fences, through dangerous traffic, we come across another stunning scene in Fountain Square. This square was founded in 1871 and renovated 100 years later in 1971, and also most recently in 2005. It now features all the convenient amenities of a city square. It is said that the square stands where an Indian mound once stood before the first white settlers arrived. The Fountain is in the opening credits of the popular sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati
. The Fountain Square District is becoming quite the popular hub for entertainment, featuring many modern-day technologies, like free Wi-Fi, art such as the renovated Tyler Davidson Fountain, the interactive Four Senses Planter Boxes, which can be touched, smelled, viewed and heard, the design in the new granite tile that resembles woven fabric, a seasonal ice skating rink, state-of-the-art lighting and sound for outdoor concerts and events, and a huge video board on top of the Macy's, not to mention the panacea of restaurants, stores and entertainment centers.
Whether or not you watch the video for "It's Not My Time" because you're a fan of 3 Doors Down, you'll definitely come away as a fan of the incomparable city of Cincinnati.
Released on February 19, 2008 and peaking at No. 5 on the Billboard charts before finally making No. 1 on the US Billboard Adult Pop Songs and Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks in 2008, this song is one of my all-time favorites. It reminds me that each day is a gift given and not to be taken for granted; we never know when our time will come. It speaks to my soul, telling me that I don't have to feel defeated, and when life has me down, to reach inside me and find the strength to fight back and shout to the world, "It's not my time, I'm not going, there's a fear in me, and it's not showing. This could be the end of me and everything I know. Oh, but I won't go!
