Songfacts®:

  • When Ariana Grande first dropped her "7 Rings" single and its accompanying video, fans immediately noted the similarities to 2 Chainz's 2011 song, "Spend It," and his Pretty Girls Like Trap Music cover art. Rather than getting caught up in a beef, the Georgia rapper met up with the pop starlet. Grande made it clear during their get-together that she's a fan of 2 Chainz, and that the "7 Rings" song and its video are an homage.

The pair wound up collaborating on two tracks. First, Grande delivered a feel-good hook to this Rap or Go to the League track. Then, while he was still in the studio with the songstress, 2 Chainz rapped a guest verse for the remix of "7 Rings."
  • The R&B-tinged upbeat track finds 2 Chainz delivering a couple of loved-up verses about his girl who walks "like a model" and is shaped "like a bottle."
  • Grande's chorus about "ruling the world" with her beau impressed the Georgia rapper. "She opened up her mouth," he recalled to Genius, "and a damn angel came out and I was like, 'Yo, this little girl can sing!'"
  • The song samples Amerie's 2002 dreamy ode "Why Don't Fall in Love."
  • The video was directed by Sebastian Sdaigui, who previously worked on 2 Chainz's "Girl's Best Friend" visual. The clip sees Grande performing at a glamorous underground Los Angeles club. 2 Chainz later joins Ariana on stage and the visual ends with a shot of an autographed photo of the two artists hanging on the venue's wall.
  • Ariana Grande surprised the Boston crowd during her concert on March 21, 2019 when she bought out 2 Chainz to give this song its first ever live performance.
