Songfacts®:

  • A blender is a kitchen appliance used to chop and purée foodstuffs. Here, Luke Hemmings sings of a torrid relationship where his emotions feel like they've been mixed and crushed in a blender.
  • During the anthemic pop-rock track, Hemmings expresses his devotion to his love interest.

    I'd die for you
I tried for you, I tried for you, I tried

Though he can't resist this girl, their relationship is anything but smooth, and they're both feeling beaten up inside.

Oh, my God, it never ends
    Now we're stressed and depressed
    And we're going 'round again
    In an emotional blender
  • Luke Hemmings wrote "Blender" with his bandmates Calum Hood (bass) and Ashton Irwin (drums), plus LA songwriter Jake Torrey (Justin Bieber's "Off My Face," BTS' "The Truth Untold") and LA producer Peter Thomas (Pink's "Walk Me Home," Selena Gomez's "Like A Champion").
  • Multi-instrumentalist Jacob Scesney plays the saxophone. The LA musician has also worked with Rachel Platten, Kesha, The Black Eyed Peas, Seal, Solange and Mike Posner.
  • 5 Seconds of Summer first teased the "Blender" title on March 20, 2022 when Ashton Irwin said it was his favorite track from 5SOS5. They released it as the fourth single from the album on July 13, 2022.
  • The band debuted the song live in Washington DC on July 5, 2022 as part of their Take My Hand Tour.
  • Bonus Fun Fact: Polish-American chemist Stephen Poplawski was the first to put a spinning blade at the bottom of a container and thus invent the blender. He created the appliance in 1922 to make soda fountain drinks.
