Songfacts®:

  • This was the lead single from Norwegian pop band a-ha's sixth album, Minor Earth Major Sky. It was their first LP for seven years because the band had been in hiatus since the early 1990s. They reconvened to perform at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in 1998, and this song was hastily written for their two-song set.
  • Vocalist Morten Harket held a note for 20.2 seconds in this song's recording. It is believed to be the longest note in the history of the Top 40.
  • The music video was shot in Cadiz, Spain, during one very cold day in April 2000.

  • Reese from Atlanta, GaI love the lyrics in this one. They're about changes we don't expect. Guess the melody rhymes with this idea as there's this pause and unexpected break in every chorus.
Not too many songs are written on this topic and are this good, IMHO
