Songfacts®:

  • "Lemonade" is the EDM title track from Aespa's second studio album of the same name. The title takes its cue directly from the Western proverb "If life gives you lemons, make lemonade," using it as a framework for a defiant, upbeat statement about resilience. Problems aren't endured; they're squeezed, blended, and consumed.
  • Group member Winter introduced the song at the album press conference, saying: "It carries the message of crushing and drinking even dangerous situations with a refreshing twist." She also described it as "one of the songs that best showcases Aespa's sense of wit."
  • The song is the centerpiece of the album's overarching "Complæxity" concept. In Aespa's mythology, multiple universes are endlessly intertwining, creating "cracks" where data and realities collide. While many artists might respond to such a situation with concern, Aespa's solution is essentially to throw everything into a metaphorical blender and hit the highest setting.

That idea is captured by Giselle:

Mixing up all these tangled-up problems
    Like a hurricane
    Swirling the pieces
    All the lemons
I blend it all up and drink it down
I don't care if you say I'm freaky

"Just like the words suggest, I really focused on delivering an attitude that says, 'I don't really care,' no matter what kind of problems or challenges come my way," she told Billboard. "I wanted that unapologetic confidence to come through clearly in my delivery."
  • The proverb "If life gives you lemons, make lemonade" has a well-established history as a pop motif; most famously deployed in Beyoncé's 2016 visual album Lemonade, which also used the idiom as a framework for resilience and self-reclamation. Aespa's use is more literal and playful, treating the lemon-squeeze as a physical and metaphorical act of power.
  • Shift K3Y, Jordan Shaw, UPSAHL and Cyrus Villanueva originally wrote the song on June 20, 2025, before Ellie Suh added the lyrics. "We wrote this last summer on Cyrus' birthday," Shaw recalled prior to the song's release, "ate cake and this song just seemed to fly out of us that day."

Shift K3Y (Lewis Jankel) is a London-born producer, vocalist, and DJ best known for his 2014 UK #3 single "Touch." He fuses contemporary pop and R&B with classic house and garage sounds, and has production credits for the likes of Tinie Tempah ("Holy Moly") and Bugzy Malone ("Memory Lane"), as well as previous K-pop work with Twice and Tomorrow X Together.

Jordan Shaw is a songwriter who has also worked with Armin van Buuren & Avian Grays ("Something Real") and SLANDER & William Black ("Keep U Warm"). "Lemonade" is his first collaboration with Aespa.

UPSAHL (Taylor Cameron Upsahl) is an American singer-songwriter whose work has appeared on Dua Lipa and Anne-Marie records. SM Entertainment brought her back for "Lemonade" after a successful prior collaboration with Aespa on "Dirty Work," making this her second project with the group.

Cyrus Villanueva is an Australian singer best known for winning the seventh season of The X Factor Australia in 2015. His debut single "Stone" reached #4 on the Australian Singles Chart.
  • Two versions of "Lemonade" appear on the album: the standard recording and a remix featuring additional vocals from Becky G.
