  • Ant Saunders is confused because his female friend has responded to him with some yellow heart emojis. He has feelings for her but in unsure whether the emojis are indicating friendship or if she wants to get romantically involved.

She put yellow hearts around my name
I thought they were all just the same
To you, what do they really mean?
Have you only been playing games?

Ant was unaware that colored hearts symbolize various feelings and emotions. He is trying to understand what message his female friend is trying to communicate. Is she intentionally playing games with his emotions?
  • Written and produced by Ant Saunders, "Yellow Hearts" was self-released on June 17, 2019 as his third single. The song gained popularity on the video-sharing platform TikTok, earning Saunders a recording contract with Trash Bin/Arista Records. They re-issued the track in November 2019.
  • The song was inspired by an actual girl. She was originally interested in Ant, but after a while he started questioning whether she was still attracted to him or not. The experience stressed the singer out and made him depressed.

The yellow hearts were inspired by their exchanges on Snapchat; whenever Ant complimented her, she would send him a bunch of yellow hearts.
  • Asked by Genius how the girl responded to "Yellow Hearts," Ant replied that he feared she "was going to block me on everything and never want to speak to me again." However, it turned out she really likes the song and felt guilty about making him feel miserable, which made Ant feel bad. He added that they're "cool now."
