Songfacts®:

  • This catchy singalong track describes Los Angeles-based rapper Arizona Zervas' relationship with a girl named Roxanne.

    Roxanne Roxanne
All she wanna do is party all night
    God damn Roxanne
Never gonna love me but it's alright

Zervas is hooked by Roxanne, even though she has a bad attitude and is using him.

But if I throw this money, she gon' drop
She don't wait in lines if it's too long

Said Zervas: "It was a song about a girl I wanted but couldn't have and didn't need."
  • The song was released on October 10, 2019. It quickly became a viral hit on the popular app TikTok, and within a month had entered the Hot 100.
  • Arizona Zervas wrote the song himself. It was produced by 94skrt, whose other credits include Why Don't We's "Come To Brazil" and Aye & Teo's "Like Us."
  • Music lovers of a certain vintage will recall another hit song about a girl called Roxanne. That track, by The Police, is about a prostitute rather than a girl who likes to party.
  • Zervas was unsigned when he released the song and its success unleashed a bidding war among labels. He eventually signed with Columbia Records.
  • Swae Lee hops on the song's remix, during which he explains his own encounter with a spoiled Hollywood girl. The Rae Sremmurd frontman debuted the new version on February 11, 2020 at the Chicago stop of Post Malone's Runaway Tour. Zervas served as Swae's surprise guest for the night.
