Songfacts®:

  • "Monaco" is a swaggering anthem in which Bad Bunny revels in his position as one of today's music industry giants. He proudly showcases his triumphs, riches, and the opulent lifestyle he enjoys, all the while adopting a carefree stance toward his critics. He's the best in the game and all others look so small next to him.

Lo que tú haga' a mí no me impresiona
Es como meter un gol después de Messi y Maradona

    Translates into English as:
Whatever you do, I'm not impressed
It's like scoring a goal after Messi and Maradona
  • Bad Bunny attended the Monaco F1 Grand Prix in May 2023 and was photographed with Red Bull Racing driver Sergio "Checo" Perez in the pit area.

Bebiendo mucha champaña, nunca estamos seco'
Primero llegó Verstappen, después llegó Checo
Si Pablo me viera, dirá que soy un berraco
Ustede' hablando mierda y yo y los mío' por Mónaco

    Translates as:
Drinking a lot of champagne, we're never dry
First came Verstappen, then came Checo
If Pablo saw me, he'd say I'm a beast
You're talking crap while me and mine are in Monaco

Bad Bunny's reputation as a bad boy is such that even the famous drug lord Pablo Escobar would show him respect.
  • Bad Bunny recorded "Monaco" for his fifth solo album, Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana. The rapper's previous album, Un Verano Sin Ti, predominantly fused reggaeton, cumbia, and indie pop. One of this album's most noticeable features is its conspicuous lack of reggaetón. Instead, this is one of several tracks where Bunny returns to his trapero roots.

Trapero is a subgenre of Latin trap music that originated in Puerto Rico in the early 2010s. It is characterized by its use of Auto-Tune, electronic beats, and catchy melodies. Bad Bunny started out as a trapero rapper but he evolved his sound to incorporate other genres.
  • Five producers created the beat:

Puerto Rican-Dominican producer Marco "MAG" Borrero
    Bunny's longtime engineer La Paciencia
Miami beatmaker Samuel "Smash David" Jimenez
    Miami producer Edsclusive
    Argellbeatz

Mag, La Paciencia, Smash David and Argellbeatz also teamed up for three other Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana tracks: "Fina," "Teléfono Nuevo" and "Perro Negro." "Monaco" is the only song Edsclusive contributed to.
  • The production boasts a hard-hitting trap vibe, incorporating violin and piano melodies from Charles Aznavour's 1964 song "Hier Encore" ("Just Yesterday"). The interlude and outro directly sample the French-Armenian singer's reflection of an old man taking stock of his life.
  • Much of the music video takes place at the Grand Prix in Monaco 2023, where Bad Bunny is watching the Oracle Red Bull Racing team and talking to the drivers, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. At the end of the clip, legendary actor Al Pacino recognizes the Puerto Rican star and invites him to his table.
  • Bad Bunny got part of this song into his halftime set at the Super Bowl in 2026, singing part of it just before a real-life wedding took place on stage.
