Drummer John Fred Young explained the background to this love song in an interview with Rock AAA: "Every guy is always doing something stupid which gets him into trouble with his girlfriend. Relationships are hard and that's where I think that song came from – when you love someone that much."
The song was reworked by the Nashville songwriter Joey Moi for the Country music duo Florida Georgia Line. Released as a single in 2013, it topped the Country chart and peaked at #28 on the Hot 100.
Pete Townshend never had a #1 UK hit with The Who or as a solo artist, but he did produce and play on a song that hit the top spot there: "Something In The Air" by Thunderclap Newman, a group he assembled.
"Crank That (Soulja Boy)" was the most successful digital track of 2007 in the US with 2,909,000 downloads. On January 6, 2008 it became the first song ever to sell 3 million digital copies in the States.
