Songfacts®:

  • Blackberry Smoke lead singer Charlie Starr's parents divorced when he was young, and growing up, he split time between his mother and father. He drew from this experience on this song, which is written from the perspective of a father who goes through a divorce and struggles with being away from his son.

"That's another composite kind of song," Starr said in his Songfacts interview. "It comes from divorce and sharing custody of children. All of it comes from my experience and growing up that way. That line, 'phone calls in the hallway,' and all that kind of stuff, that was from experience."
