Blake Whiten is a South Carolina singer-songwriter whose music sits squarely at the crossroads of modern country, Southern rock, and early-2000s post-grunge. The result is a sound that feels like a late-night confessional, played loud enough to rattle a truck's windows.
Whiten was born and raised in Six Mile, South Carolina, a small town in the Smoky Mountain foothills with fewer than 800 residents. He learned his first guitar chords from his father. "He only showed me four chords and then told me if I wanted to play guitar, I had to learn the rest myself," Whiten told All Country News.
He built a following online by posting home-recorded covers of country hits and classics. Whiten's turning point came in June 2024 when he posted an acoustic cover of Morgan Wallen's "I Guess." The video racked up over 10 million views, catching the attention of Nashville managers, publishers, and record labels almost overnight.
His second independently released single, "Rolliin' Stone," was his breakout. Whiten wrote the track entirely solo, and it went on to gain heavy rotation on SiriusXM's The Highway, and land on major flagship playlists like Spotify's Hot Country and Apple Music's Country Risers.
His 2025 debut EP, Six Mile, was named after his hometown and established his self-reliant approach to songwriting, with Whiten penning five of the project's tracks by himself. He credits his upbringing for his work ethic. "If you live in Six Mile, no matter what it is you're chasing after, construction or music, you've got to put in 100% the entire time," he said. "Otherwise, you're just not going to make money or get what you want."
Whiten earned a major outside songwriting credit when Bailey Zimmerman recorded "Holding On," a track he co-wrote with producer Austin Shawn. Zimmerman was set to release a completely different single until he heard the demo right before entering the studio Whiten gladly gave the track to Zimmerman to record.
In June 2025, Whiten signed with Enchntmnt/Warner Records. Even as his profile grew, he kept his small-town roots front and center, regularly telling audiences, "I'm just a small town boy from Six Mile."
His debut full-length album, Something to Say, arrived on July 3, 2026. Produced by Austin Shawn, the 12-track record has co-writes with heavyweights like Erik Dylan, Ben Johnson, Hunter Phelps and Taylor Phillips. The album pushes his rootsy songwriting into heavier, alt-rock territory without losing the grain and power of his voice.
Whiten's rapid rise eventually brought him to stadium stages, including 2026 opening slots for Morgan Wallen in Pennsylvania and Michigan, just two years after his cover of Wallen's music first launched his career. That same summer, "Bet On That" became Whiten's first single to hit the Billboard Hot 100, entering the chart at #98.
