Songfacts®:

  • Masked Massachusetts singer-songwriter BoyWithUke made his name on TikTok performing his minute-long songs behind an opaque face shield. Played on a ukulele and produced on his iPad in GarageBand, his tracks racked up millions of views on the platform.

After his October 2021 single "Toxic" went viral, charting worldwide, BoyWithUke signed a deal with Republic Records. He released "IDGAF" as the second single from his debut album, Serotonin Dreams.
  • The song title refers to BoyWithUke's "I Don't Give a F--k" attitude over breaking up with his girlfriend. He rants and raves during the kiss-off anthem about his ex's lying, her heart of ice, and even her looks as he tells her she isn't pretty. Clearly, their relationship was a toxic one.
  • Dua Lipa released a single in 2017 with the same title and a similar theme of moving on from a cheating lover.
  • Singer-songwriter Blackbear croons a guest verse where he too slams an ex who did the dirty on him. "IDGAF" is BoyWithUke's first collaboration with another artist.
  • BoyWithUke co-produced "IDGAF" with Blackbear's go-to writing partner, LA-based Andrew Goldstein.
  • Why does BoyWithUke hide his identity behind a mask? The singer grew up in a judgmental environment. He got bullied for his voice, making him fearful of how people would view him if they knew it was him singing. "Having the mask, it allows me to be myself without fear of judgment from others," he told Billboard. "And I want people to really pay attention to the music, rather than what I look like."
