  • Usmc Corpsman from Westland, MiI have read so many 'uninformed' perceptions and implied meanings behind this song. It is directly written by Ben when Canada joined the USA in the war on terror. He alluded to the large number of possible 'unknown' casualties of a war. He also describes the mental state of an individual serving in a war and the internal fears they battle every moment. The USA, as many are aware, has a monument at ANC with 24hr guards called the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The importance is that the remains within are still unidentified to this day. The saddness is that they had no family/friends/loved ones who even know they have left this earth. Dying alone undignified is the greatest fear any soldier has. As a medic of 5 combat tours, i had only one marine where the family couldnt be located. He had a name. I was the only servicemember at his funeral in Arlington. This internal pain is what Ben was trying to bring into focus. He told the story in in Detroit back in 2011.
