Songfacts®:

  • C+C Music Factory landed a #1 hit with their debut single, "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)." They followed it up "Here We Go," another club banger with a very similar beat. It was also a big hit, climbing to #3.

The song has a very memorable opening, with rapper Freedom Williams declaring:

You all want this party started Right?
You all want this party started quickly. Right?
  • The female vocalist is Zelma Davis, a member of the group. She didn't sing on "Gonna Make You Sweat" though - that was a session singer named Martha Wash. Davis lip-synched Wash's parts in the video for that song and appeared on the artwork, which led to a lawsuit by Wash, who was later credited.
  • C+C Music Factory was the producers David Cole and Robert Clivillés (Cole died in 1995 at 32). They had some success with the girl group Seduction before turning their attention to C+C, which had a run of hits from their debut album. "Here We Go" they followed with "Things That Make You Go Hmmmm..." and "Just a Touch of Love."
  • Robert Clivillés wrote this song with Freedom Williams, the rapper on the track. Williams is the shirtless star of the video, which takes place in an industrial setting à la Janet Jackson's "Rhythm Nation."
