Songfacts®:

  • "Pretty & Petty" is Cardi B's full-throttle response to Boston rapper Bia. It's the latest round in a feud that started in 2024 when both rappers sampled Missy Elliott's 1999 track "She's a Bitch."

Bia got there first in 2023 with her Timbaland-assisted "I'm That Bitch." Then in 2024 Cardi released "Like What (Freestyle)," built on the same sample. Bia's fans accused Cardi of copying, and Bia agreed. It escalated from there until Bia dropped "Sue Meee?" a diss track that went too far in Cardi's book, taking shots not just at her but at her children, Kulture and Wave.

Speaking on The Breakfast Club, she explained: "When my kids grow up one day and they see that you mentioned them, they're gonna ask me, 'So what you said, what you did?' I'm not gonna tell my kids I took the high road. I'm like, 'You see how I violated?'"
  • The track opens with a line that joined the pantheon of Cardi quotables:

Name five BIA songs, gun pointin' to your head
    Bow, I'm dead

It's half pop quiz, half career obituary, and every bit as dismissive as her "Cardi don't need more press" hook in "Press." From there, she tears through Bia's looks, connections, milestones, and more.
  • Musically, "Pretty and "Petty" is deceptively sunny. Produced by DJ SwanQo and Sean Island, "Pretty & Petty" rides a West Coast groove that feels almost laid-back, an odd but effective setting for the lyrical demolition job. SwanQo is one of Cardi's secret weapons: the Beacon, New York producer has been with her on several of her hits, including "Up," "Bongos" and "Outside." He and Island also worked on "Like What (Freestyle)," the very track that lit the fuse on the feud.
  • A pregnant Cardi B shot the DIY-style video in a home with a makeshift office setting. The visual is intentionally minimal yet playful, focusing on Cardi's energy and delivery rather than heavy production or narrative effects.
