Songfacts®:

  • In "Beach House," Carly Rae Jepsen recalls some online dating adventures in her quest to find the perfect guy. They all have something appealing that led her to swipe right, but when she goes on each date, she learns why they're still available. The first guy shows up with a delightful picnic, but his mom packed it. The next guy is a stud, but also married.

In the chorus, we hear the honest voice of a stereotypical online dater telling Jepsen his big sell:

I've got a beach house in Malibu

And why he's not going to work out:

I'm probably gonna hurt your feelings
  • The song was released as a single preceding Jepsen's sixth album, The Loneliest Time. "Everyone on dating apps has had a horror story or six," she told Rolling Stone. "You feel vulnerable and often come up disenchanted by the whole thing. I know some people genuinely join apps to find love, but I'm after the people that are in there to play a game with you. They need to be called out."
  • Jepsen wrote this song with Alex Hope (Troye Sivan's "Wild") and Nate Cyphert (Florida Georgia Line's "H.O.L.Y."). Hope was the producer.
  • The music video was directed by Taylor Fauntleroy and opens with Jepsen lounging on the beach with two of her married friends who talk about how they miss going on dates. Jepsen gets up and launches into this song, letting them know the dating world can be a downer.

It was shot in Malibu and stars many of Jepsen's friends and associates.
