Songfacts®:

  • This Thrive track finds Mark Hall addressing a weary soul who needs to let go and let their heavenly Father hold them. Hall penned the song with Matthew West and Bernie Herms for the album.
  • Hall had no idea how influential this song would be in his own life when he wrote it. A year after the release of Thrive, he was undergoing surgery to remove a cancerous growth on his kidney. "The lesson for me, and all of us really, is to be mindful of what you say or the words you write down," Hall said. "God has an amazing way of using those words to remind you to rest in Him, rest in truth, and just be held."
  • Asked by NewReleaseToday what the message of the song is, Mark Hall replied:

"We had three concerts left on the tour before the surgery, and I hadn't made it public. I was singing all of these songs, punching myself in my face with my own songs: 'Who Am I,' 'Voice of Truth,' 'Praise You In This Storm,' all these songs saying it's going to be okay and to trust God.

The very first night, I came to the song 'Just Be Held,' and the first line is 'hold it all together, everybody needs you strong.' In that moment, I realized that I was the story for this song. I don't see signs in things normally. I did see how God gave me this song a year and half before I got cancer because He knew I was going to need it. It was a cool moment for me."

  • Kevin Hale from Independence, MoMy son, Robbie Hale, and I are singing this song at church (today). My wife, Jan Hale, to whom I 'be been married for 32 years, has developed Stave IV stomach cancer. It's turned out world upside down. She's a real fighter, much stronger than I am. Also our Children's Minister has an older brother in the last stages of brain cancer. Others in our church are facing their own "storms" right now, as well. Please pray we can keep our eyes focused on the cross, as mentioned in the song.
I have been blessed more than you can ever know by your music since you and Casting Crowns first started recording. Thank you and God bless you all.
