Songfacts®:

  • In this song, Celine plays the role of a woman has to end an affair because her man "knew about us all along," even though she thought she had done a good job of keeping it hidden. It's an uptempo song that was released as her second single in America, following the power ballad "Where Does My Heart Beat Now." Americans preferred her ballads: "Where Does My Heart Beat Now" went to #4 while "(If There Was) Any Other Way" stalled at #35.
  • Celine Dion doesn't write her own songs but is a convincing interpreter. This one was written by Paul Bliss, who also wrote "How Do I Survive" by Amy Holland and "Heart Attack" by Olivia Newton-John. The producer was Christopher Neil, who did a lot of work with Sheena Easton.
  • Celine Dion was just 22 when she released this song on her first English-language album, Unison, in 1990. She already had three French albums to her credit, though, the first coming in 1981 when she was 13. After conquering her native Canada and France, she won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1988 (for Switzerland), which earned her a big following across Europe. She needed some time to refine her English before putting out the Unison album, but found an audience in the States pretty quickly. That audience was so ardent that Dion took up residency in Las Vegas from 2003-2007 and again in 2011-2019.

  • Shreyas from Mumbai, IndiaBeautiful way she (Celine Dion) has sung it! After singing this song she clearly had indirectly taunted her rivals through the line "Don't you think I want to stay?"
