Songfacts®:

  • "360" is a celebration of self-confidence, internet culture, and owning your success on the world stage. Released as the second single from Charli XCX's sixth album, Brat, the retro synth-pop track echoes the self-assured attitude of the lead single, "Von Dutch."
  • Charli doesn't just own her success, she throws a virtual parade for the muses and collaborators who helped her get there. Model Gabbriette, actress Julia Fox, and producer A.G. Cook all get name-dropped during the track, a subtle nod to the community that's fostered her artistic journey – a digital "mother" of sorts.
  • Charli reteams with her longtime sonic architect A.G. Cook, alongside Easyfun (he co-wrote "Speed Drive" and "Von Dutch"). They're joined by the American songwriting trio of Cirkut, Blake Slatkin, and Omer Fedi, who also cooked up Sam Smith's "Unholy."
  • The accompanying music video, directed by Aidan Zamiri, is a visual feast for the internet-obsessed. A star-studded cast of internet celebrities and influencers like Julia Fox, Chloe Sevigny, and Gabbriette, take center stage. The first two minutes takes place in a restaurant where the girls embark on a quest to find the next big "internet it girl" before Charli and her squad perform "360" across a variety of settings: a hospital hallway, a pumping gym, and an office.
  • Charli dropped a remix on May 31, 2024, which incorporates vocal contributions by two Swedes: the iconic electro-pop queen Robyn and the enigmatic rapper Yung Lean. This new version takes the original's self-assured swagger to the next level, with all three artists reveling in a display of self-assured confidence.

Charli and Robyn go way back to a time when Robyn was 30, Charli was 20. They met during a festival tour in Australia and bonded at an after-party.

"Whatever little experience I'd had I was able to share with her, and she was very inspiring to me," Robyn told Paper.

"We just stayed acquaintances," she continued. "She spent a lot of time in Sweden, but we never really hung out that much. Whenever we did see each other, it was very special. I just always really loved her mind and I think it was very obvious, even when she was 20, that she was a smart girl. I was challenged by our conversations, and I always was a fan."
  • While appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Chloë Sevigny shared her experience starring in the "360" music video.

"Honestly, I didn't know much about her [Charli XCX]," she admitted. "I had seen her all over my Instagram. All the girlies, all the kids loved her. And I thought, 'Who is this Charli XCX?' But then they told me who else was in the video, and I was like, 'Rachel Sennott? I'm in.' I adore her. I'm in love with her."

When Fallon asked if Charli explained the concept of "Brat Summer," Sevigny recalled, "I asked the director, 'What's the mood? What's the vibe for the video? How should I act?' He said, 'Just act like a brat.' I thought, 'A brat?' I have a 4-year-old. I know exactly what a f---ing brat is."
  • Charli XCX explained to Apple Music's Zane Lowe how the minimalist, lime-green branding for Brat came from a place of uncertainty about how the album would perform. "The actual first idea of doing a text cover came from was to save money. I was like, 'This album is not going to appeal to a lot of people,'" she admitted. "I was like, 'I think I will do a press shoot and then maybe we just save on the album cover.'"
  • In 2024, the word "brat" took on a new meaning thanks to Charli XCX's album. She described the album's vibe to NME as "kind of bitchy and gossipy and hardcore."

As the summer of 2024 wore on, the word "brat" began to permeate pop culture. This trend was further amplified when the Democratic nominee for the 2024 US presidential race was announced. Charli XCX famously tweeted, "Kamala IS brat."

By the end of October 2024, Collins English Dictionary recognized Brat's cultural impact by naming it the Word of the Year.
  • Charli XCX performed "360" on the November 16, 2024, episode of Saturday Night Live. It marked the third time Charli had been the musical guest on the sketch show, following 2014 and 2022.
