Songfacts®:

  • "I Don't Think That I Like Her" finds Charlie Puth struggling on the dating front. In the first verse, he meets a girl and things start off well, but once the relationship becomes serious, she gets cold feet. The girl isn't ready to commit herself, so she breaks up with him.

Puth hooks up with another girl on the second verse, but she concludes he's not her type and dumps him.

On the chorus, Puth claims he'd lost interest in both women. All his romantic failures have bought on paranoia, and now he thinks girls just want to break his heart.
  • Puth first teased "I Don't Think I Like Her" on March 19, 2021 with a since-deleted TikTok previewing the tune in its early stages. His followers on the app got to see the creation process of this song and others. On December 6, 2021, Puth posted the track to TikTok under the title "HER," and it received over 4.5 million views within the first 15 hours. He eventually released it as the fifth single from Charlie on September 16, 2022.
  • Charlie Puth produced "I Don't Think That I Like Her" himself and co-penned the track with Jacob Kasher, Jake Torrey, and Blake Slatkin. Kasher is the singer's regular writing partner; Torrey helped him write "Light Switch"; and Slatkin and the singer both worked on Kid Laroi's smash hit "Stay."
  • Blink-182's Travis Barker played drums on the track and session musician Jan Ozveren was on guitar. Ozveren played on six of Puth's Voice Notes tracks, including "Attention" and "How Long."
