Songfacts®:

  • This song is about wanting something that's so simple, yet very hard to get. When Chris Martin sings, "I want to live life," he is reflecting on the challenges of life that can seem overwhelming. >>

  • "We Never Change" is the penultimate song on Coldplay's hugely popular debut studio album, Parachutes. It won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album in 2002 and has since sold over 13 million copies around the globe. Despite its monumental success, however, Martin feels the album is far from their best work. At a press conference in 2006, he said: "We know that's terrible music, and we always try to think about what we can do next."

  • Dea Lia from Bucuresti, RomaniaIt's symbolic, obviously. The most interesting part of this song is in my opinion the fact that humbleness ("wooden house") makes it easier of us to make friends: "where making more friends would be easy".
  • Hanna from Steamboat, CoI think this is about someone who has nothing, but wants only the simple things.. "I wanna live in a wooden house, where making friends would be more easy, I wanna live where the sun comes out." I mean, these are the simple things we should all be grateful for in this world. What more should we need than a roof over our heads, good friends, and a little bit of sunshine?
  • Dortez from Mesa, AzThats pretty much what i figured it meant. But i didnt really understand the "wooden house" is. I mean is it symbolic or just literal.
