Songfacts®:

  • According to the Robert Kimball book The Complete Lyrics Of Cole Porter, Porter started writing songs between 1905 and 1909; "Class Song - 1909" was one of the songs he composed at this time, but it didn't survive. From its title, this was obviously written about/inspired by his time at Worcester Academy. He had more success with the songs he wrote at Yale, including football songs (his "Bulldog Bulldog" is still the school's official fight song). >>>
