The Bearded Lady

Album: The Unpublished Cole Porter (1909)

Songfacts®:

  • "The Bearded Lady" is an early Cole Porter song, one of many he wrote from 1905-1909 that didn't survive. It appears to have been a song Porter wrote to entertain his classmates at the Worcester Academy, but his headmaster was apparently not impressed with its bawdy content and is reputed to have banned him from playing it - and similar songs - ever again. >>>
