Songfacts®:

  • "Outsider" is the title track to the sixth Comeback Kid album. Andrew Neufeld, who fronts the Canadian rockers, explained the meaning: "New ideas are sometimes viewed as outsider ideas, and sometimes those new ideas brought to life become the future. It takes a while for those ideas to get pounded through people's heads before it seems like something worthwhile."
  • This song leads off the album. In a Songfacts interview with Neufeld, he said: "The song 'Outsider' turned out really, really good and we really worked hard on it, especially in the mixing process. That's when it was coming together into its full form. We were like, 'Let's just do this, let's make that statement and have it in the front of the record.' You can't miss it - it's just right there."
  • Comeback Kid guitarist Jeremy Hiebert wrote the intro riff and the verse licks thinking of it as introduction music for when a hockey team comes onto the ice. Can you tell he's Canadian?
  • Why was this song selected as the title track? Because they could all agree on it. Neufeld thought "Outlier" could make a good title, but decided to go for the obvious and "really accentuate features that we wanted to shine."
