Songfacts®:

  • "Yours" is a soft piano ballad where Conan Gray sings of his unrequited love for a friend. The singer tries his utmost to take their relationship to the next level, but his feelings are not shared.

I know I'm not the one you really love
I guess that's why I've never given up

On the hook, Gray accepts that his friend is not interested in a romantic relationship.

    I want more
    But I'm not yours
And I can't change your mind
    But you're still mine

By the end, Gray is chastising himself for wasting his energy when his efforts were destined to fail.

I should've known that it was dumb love
    Fifteen dozen roses
All the things that I've done
    For you not to notice
  • Gray co-wrote the piano ballad with his regular collaborator and producer Dan Nigro. Besides working with Gray, Nigro is best known as the co-writer/producer of Olivia Rodrigo's Sour album.
  • Dan Nigro played the organ, piano and bass on the track, Ryan Linvill the saxophone, and Sterling Laws the drums. Linvill and Laws are regular Nigro cohorts and both played on Gray's Kid Krow and Rodrigo's Sour albums.
