Songfacts®:

  • This pop-punk rocker from the California trio Crooked Teeth deals with prescription drug withdrawal. It's based on a true story. The band's lead singer, Tyson Evans, explained to Songfacts:

"I'm no stranger to vulnerability and honesty in songwriting but something about 'One Week Off' feels uniquely cathartic and truthful to me. I wrote the song after a therapy session where I was explaining to my therapist how I had literally been one week off of my Prozac due to a lapse in health coverage and how much of a toll it was taking on not only my mental well being but deeply physical as well. The headaches, the cold shakes, the manic episodes, loss of appetite and at very worst; the suicidal ideations.

Though tongue-in-cheek in it's lyrical delivery, this one has a much deeper message centered around the medical industry and the predatory perpetuation of codependency on prescription medications paired with a for-profit healthcare system hell bent on exploiting people."
  • Tyson Evans wrote the song with Nick Long from the band Dark Waves. As a songwriter, he's also worked with blink-182, King Princess and K. Flay.

"It was super rad getting to nerd out on our favorite bands, records and bring those into the metaphorical kitchen when cooking this one up," Evans said. "This is our favorite song we've ever released and we are so stoked to be able to share it with the world."
  • "One Week Off" is the first Crooked Teeth song with their new bass player, Livi Dillon, who shares lead vocals on the track. "To really tie everything together in such a special way, we had the privilege of sharing this with Livi Dillon as the first piece of music to work on together," Evans said. "She absolutely crushed it and lifted the energy of the song entirely.

I would also like to add that it feels really special to share a song that's uniquely vulnerable in its nature with another singer/songwriter and having them communicate being able to relate and see a version of themselves in the lyrics."
