Songfacts®:

  • This duet between Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas was recorded for the 2010 movie Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. The song reunites the pair, who dated for a time and stayed friends after splitting up. Joe gave props to his former girlfriend, telling MTV News that it's favorite song on the soundtrack: "Demi's vocals sound really great. Although it was freezing cold when we filmed it, it's a special piece in the movie."
  • The song was written by the Swedish songwriter/producers Adam Anders and Peer Astrom, along with Nikki Hassman, who worked on many Disney productions and also the show Glee.
  • The first Camp Rock movie aired on Disney in 2008 and was an introduction to Demi Lovato, who was 15. Joe Jonas starred in that one too - his group The Jonas Brothers were big stars by that point. Lovato sang "This Is Me" in the movie, which was released as her first single and rose to #9. The next two years were very intense for Lovato; she released two very successful albums and starred in the Disney series Sonny With A Chance. Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam aired in the summer of 2010 when she was about to turn 18. Months later, she went to rehab to deal with an eating disorder and sundry mental health issues. In treatment, she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
  • Lovato and The Jonas Brothers played this song when they toured together in 2010, then in 2025 they joined forces again to perform it at the opening night of JoBro's Greetings From Your Hometown tour, where Lovato also sang "This Is Me" with them.
