Songfacts®:

  • This was inspired by a letter sent by a fan who said she had been sexually abused. The lyrics are meant to encourage women to get help if they are in trouble. Empowerment was a key theme for Destiny's Child, especially on their third album, Survivor.
  • Beyoncé Knowles wrote and produced this song with Ken "K-Fam" Fambro, who also worked on an earlier Destiny's Child song, "Now That She's Gone." By this time, Beyoncé was established not only as a focal point of the group, but also as a primary songwriter, with credits on most songs from the album.
