  • Devendra Banhart comments in the October 2007 edition of Q Magazine: "This was a gift to my father. The Charles C Leary was a ship that my great-great-great-great-grandfather ran." In the same article he says about the album, "I recorded most of my first record (The Charles C Leary) on answering machines: 'Here's a song-Der-der, chimmy-chimmy-ching-ching, bubba-bubba-ber-bum. Don't erase that!'"
