Songfacts®:

  • D.O.D is British DJ and record producer Dan O'Donnell whose music fuses house, techno, electro, drum & bass, dubstep and, hip-hop. Having released singles since 2009, he clocked up his first UK Top 75 hit 13 years later with "Still Sleepless."
  • The song was originally a slice of piano house that D.O.D dropped in early 2021. It racked up millions of streams, so the DJ and co-writer Laura Welsh asked Carla Monroe if she wanted to jump on a vocal version. "I remember us trying out so many different ideas until we found the magic in a melody we had actually used in a different part of the song," Monroe recalled. "We really wanted to stay true to the original version of 'Sleepless' and compliment what was already there without overcomplicating it."
  • Monroe sings the same lines throughout the song:

I've been sitting 'round thinkin' 'bout you lately
Having second thoughts about you, baby
And I can't sleep at night
    But I can't sleep, I can't sleep alone

Monroe is having second thoughts about ending a relationship as she lies alone in her bed.
  • Released on November 26, 2021, "Still Sleepless" garnered heavy rotation on air, online, and in the clubs. It first entered the UK singles chart in late January 2022 and continued to hover around its lower reaches for several months.
  • London singer-songwriter Carla Monroe first burst onto the scene as the vocalist on MK's UK Top 10 hit "17." She has since worked with the likes of CamelPhat, Nervo and Oliver Heldens.
  • Though "Still Sleepless" reached only #46 on the UK Singles chart, it was still a sizable hit. According to Official Charts Company data, "Still Sleepless" was the biggest song of 2022 to not hit the Top 40.
