Songfacts®:

  • "No Pole" is a thoughtful tale about a woman striving to leave behind her life as a stripper, a life that once centered around "hitting the pole." The title is a direct nod to her decision to step away from the lifestyle and make a fresh start. Rather than merely observing, Toliver lends his voice to support her journey, weaving in reflections on his own lifestyle along the way.
  • Toliver penned the song with Douglas Ford (also known as Dougie F. Ford), who also wrote "Xscape," the opener to Toliver's second album, Life of a Don, along with "Encouragement" and "Embarrassed" (featuring Travis Scott) for the Love Sick album.
  • The production is courtesy of Cardo and DJ Fresh. Cardo's credits include Drake's "God's Plan" and Kendrick Lamar's "Euphoria." DJ Fresh, meanwhile, has worked with the likes of Wiz Khalifa. Their beat is energetic and uplifting yet moody, giving "No Pole" a bit of a hypnotic, layered feel.
  • "No Pole" made its way onto the deluxe edition of Toliver's Love Sick album, released on February 28, 2023. For over a year, it meandered in relative obscurity until TikTok users began sharing videos with "No Pole" in the background. The song picked up steam - one post after another - and by November 2024, the song finally secured a spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
