Songfacts®:

  • Doris Day is best known for "Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)," but there's another song in her catalog with a Spanish-language connection that's also worth exploring. "Quizas, Quizas, Quizas" was written by the Cuban songwriter Osvaldo Farres and released in 1947 by the Puerto Rican singer Bobby Capó. The song was adapted to English the following year as "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps," with Desi Arnaz (pre-I Love Lucy) recording the first version with that translation. Doris Day released her version in 1965.
  • The song appears on Doris Day's album Latin For Lovers, which is packed with song that have a Latin connection.
  • "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps" was never a hit for Doris Day but it got a lot of attention when it was used in the 1992 movie Strictly Ballroom. The song has also been covered by Ben E. King, Geri Halliwell and Cake, but the version by Day remains the most popular.
