Songfacts®:

  • Here, Drake expresses his disdain for artists who don't have what it takes to succeed.

I hate a privileged rapper that ain't had a hit since he signed
Ni--as be full of excuses, act like they takin' they time

Drake is calling out unmotivated rappers who think they've made it because they've got a recording contract. They walk around with their heads high even though they're nowhere to be found on the charts.
  • Drake recorded "Privileged Rappers" for Her Loss, his collaborative album with 21 Savage. The Atlanta rapper contributes the second verse where he addresses his opps. He warns them he might be a famous rapper now, but he's still ready to go to war.
  • Earl on the Beat and Memishi created the instrumentation with additional production from Drake's go-to beatmaker, Noah "40" Shebib. They sample multiple elements from The Isley Brothers' 1983 track "Ballad for the Fallen Soldier."
  • Drake and 21 Savage promoted Her Loss with an entirely fabricated press run that included a spoof Vogue cover; a fake appearance on NPR's Tiny Desk concert; a deepfake interview on The Howard Stern Show; and a performance of "Privileged Rappers" that mimicked the production style of a Colors Show live performance. (The Colors Show is a creative music platform that showcases outstanding talent from around the world).
