Songfacts®:

  • "Cold Shoulder" is an expression meaning deliberate unfriendliness: a figurative turning away of the upper body that says, "I would rather not deal with you." Drake repeats the phrase as he tries to persuade a woman who has grown distant to come back. His verse moves between pleading and frustration at her pride, while Don Toliver steps in to explore loneliness and who is to blame. R&B singer-songwriter Yebba adds backing vocals and features on the outro.
  • The setup sounds personal, but Drake frequently writes in character. While many of his songs draw on real events, he hasn't said "Cold Shoulder" is about a specific person or relationship. Bringing in multiple vocalists points more toward a crafted storyline than a biographical entry.
  • "Cold Shoulder" was first heard in Drake's self-funded short film FOMO, which premiered on YouTube on September 15, 2026. It arrived on streaming platforms on October 2 as part of the deluxe edition of Habibti.
  • The track is one of two Habibti collaborations between Drake and Don Toliver, alongside "Solar Eclipse." The two had been circling each other's orbit for months before Drake joined Toliver on stage during his OCTANE tour stop in Toronto in August.

Yebba's history with Drake goes back much further. She provided the vocals for "Yebba's Heartbreak," the Certified Lover Boy interlude named after her, and also appeared on "Die Trying" from Some Sexy Songs 4 U.
  • Drake isn't the first singer to discover that being given the cold shoulder makes for useful material.

Adele, Josh Turner, and Central Cee have all released tracks titled after the idiom. Central Cee previously teamed up with Drake on "On The Radar Freestyle" and "Which One," so it's possible he got the idea from him. Garth Brooks also sang about a cold shoulder, though his take is literal, his song is about a trucker parked on the paved shoulder of a highway.
  • London Cyr, 20, ohh!, O Lil Angel, and B4U produced the track.

London Cyr has been one of Drake's most frequent collaborators since 2024. His credits include three tracks from 100 Gigs, "It's Up," "No Face," and "Circadian Rhythm," along with "Something About You" from Some Sexy Songs 4 U, "Gen 5" from Habibti, and seven tracks on Iceman.

O Lil Angel is the producer alias of London rapper and singer Octavian. His previous work with Drake includes "What Did I Miss?," "Which One," and "Plot Twist."

B4U has been an even bigger fixture across Drake's 2026 releases, earning production credits on 24 songs across his three May 2026 albums.
