Songfacts®:

  • Dua Lipa says this song is "a glimpse into our studio session." The song is about rekindling the flame in a relationship, but Lipa drew inspiration from her collaborators while working on the Radical Optimism album in London.

"I have this thing about studios," she told Zach Sang of Amazon Music. "I love a place that has windows and light, and a lot of studios don't have that. Most studios are really dark, but that room has seen me through every season, every emotion. I go in the studio at 11 and I'm there until 9 p.m., and I love seeing it go from day to night. I feel like my ideas can breathe in a room like that."

The laughing and studio chatter at the beginning of the song makes it clear they were having a good time.
  • Jan Brzezinski, an engineer on the album, played piano on this song. Lipa got to know him throughout the making of the album and asked him to play on the track after hearing him on piano.
  • Caroline Ailin, Danny Harle, Ian Kirkpatrick and Tobias Jesso Jr. were Lipa's main songwriting partners on the Radical Optimism album and co-wrote this song with her along with Julia Michaels, a solo artist ("Issues"), who has written with Justin Bieber ("Friends"), Selena Gomez ("Lose You to Love Me") and many other superstars.
  • Radical Optimism is Lipa's third album. On the cover, she's enjoying some time in the water even though a shark is nearby. This calm in the face of danger represents the radical optimism of the title.
