  • The second single from Dua Lipa's self-titled debut album finds her pleading to her lover to give her a second chance.

Oh baby, come on, let me get to know you
Just another chance so that I can show
That I won't let you down and run
No, I won't let you down and run

Lipa explained to Nylon magazine: "For me, 'Be The One' is about self-belief, perseverance, and fighting for what you want. In this instance, it's about a relationship, but really, this is an attitude I try to bring into everything in my life."
  • The song was written by:

Classically trained singer Lucy Taylor, who was a finalist in BBC Radio 2's "Young Chorister of the Year" in 2009, before becoming a mainstay in Bloc Party frontman Kele's solo touring band. She co-wrote and supplied duet vocals on the English singer 's 2011 single "What Did I Do?."

Nick Gale, a.k.a. Digital Farm Animals, who has worked as a songwriter and producer with Rudimental and Galantis. He co-wrote the latter's 2016 hit "No Money." Digital Farm Animals also had success with their own single "Millionaire," which was a collaboration with American electronic music group Cash Cash. Gale also produced "Be The One."
  • Dua Lipa shot two music videos for the song. The first was directed by Nicole Nodland who also filmed the clip for Lipa's single "New Love." It was filmed in the streets of Soho, London in 2015.

The second video was directed by Daniel Kaufman in 2016 and features American actor Ansel Elgort, who played Augustus Waters in The Fault in Our Stars.
  • This was the only song on Dua Lipa's self-titled debut album that she didn't write herself. "As much as I loved the song, at first I wasn't sure I wanted to record it because I hadn't written it," she admitted to NME. "It was a pride thing, but it was also like, 'I can't take a song I haven't written because then no one will believe I write any of my own stuff.' But I just had to get over it. And now that song has helped me to get the stuff that I did write out there."
  • The song went to #1 in several countries including Belgium, Bulgaria and Poland.
  • The song started out as a poem. "I had been working with a songwriter named Lucy Taylor quite a bit, and she came to me with what was almost a poem that I thought was amazing," Nick Gale recalled to Billboard."We started making a beat in a session and only spent a day on a half on it. During the chorus we realized it was really good."

Six months later, Lipa's Sony label heard Taylor and Gale's demo version. "I'm not even sure how, but they thought it'd be amazing for Dua," Gale noted. "She came in and we made it right for her, like changing the key. It was a lucky one, because it's very rare you get to be the first person on a project that gives someone their first major hit."
