Songfacts®:

  • Durand Jones & The Indications originally began work on this song in late 2019. The band wrote it about being in a crowded room but only having eyes for one particular girl. They want to get her out of there into their own "private space" so they can get it on.

When the pandemic happened in early 2020, the lyrics took on a completely different meaning. "This thing everyone could relate to," Durand Jones told Mojo magazine. "Being home alone and within our private space."
  • Drummer Aaron Frazer steps out in front of the mic on this track. He shares Durand Jones & The Indications' vocal duties with the band leader; Frazer does the falsetto parts and Durand Jones the lower singing.
  • Durand Jones, Aaron Frazer, Blake Rhein, and Steve Okonski of the band wrote the song with arrangers Ginger Dolden and Peter Lanctot.
  • This is the title track of Durand Jones & The Indications third album. Recorded in New York City at Diamond Mine, Private Space departs from the '60s funk and soul music of their first two records towards a more disco and modern-soul-inspired sound.
