  • "What He'll Never Have" is a gentle, aching meditation on love, loss, and the stuff we leave behind. The premise is simple: Dylan Scott imagines what would happen if he died before his wife, Blair. (Not a cheery thought, admittedly, but bear with him.) He pictures her moving on and remarrying - which he accepts with admirable grace - but he's quick to draw a boundary: the new man can have the house, the truck, the fishing spot, and even the old dog. But the one thing he'll never, ever have is her, not in the way Scott did. That kind of love, the song quietly insists, doesn't get passed along like a set of golf clubs. It's non-transferable.
  • Scott co-wrote the song alongside his brother Logan Robinson, tour manager and guitarist Robbie Gatlin, and songwriter Ricky Rowton.
  • "What He'll Never Have" is the lead single from Dylan Scott's 2025 album Easy Does It. The vulnerability in the song reflects Scott's own life stage. He described himself as being in the best phase of his life, grounded by his marriage, children, and a sense of gratitude.

"I don't know if that's because of my kids or being married as long as I have, or if it's just getting into my 30s, but I don't stress," said Scott. "I don't worry like I used to – we just go to work. As crazy as it sounds, I'm in that Easy Does It phase of life."
