Songfacts®:

  • In The Wizard Of Oz, Dorothy wonders what's over the rainbow. In this song, Extreme frontman Gary Cherone picks up on this theme, inviting a girl to come with him to see what's on the other side of the rainbow. She's been hurt before, but he thinks he can restore her faith in love.

"It's a universal theme," Cherone said. "It's the perfect marriage of lyrics and melody."
  • Extreme bounce around genres and tempos, with their biggest hits coming with the acoustic "More Than Words" and "Hole Hearted." On "Other Side Of The Rainbow," their guitarist Nuno Bettencourt plays acoustic before ripping into the solo on electric, his aural interpretation of a rainbow.

"It's a groove we've never done acoustically," he said. "It's got my favorite guitar solo [on the album]. It's an up-tempo, moving song."
  • The music video starts with a vignette showing a teenage girl running off with her boyfriend after a fight with her father. They go on a beach-bound adventure, ending when he drops her off at night. The video was directed by Nuno Bettencourt along with Rene Rigal.
  • "Other Side Of The Rainbow" is the fourth single from Extreme's sixth album, the appropriately named Six. The band took a break from 1997-2006, with Cherone fronting Van Halen for a few years. They went 15 years between their 2008 album Saudades De Rock and Six in 2023. During this time, Bettencourt was Rihanna's touring guitarist. He performed with her at the Super Bowl.
