Songfacts®:

  • "Heartbreak Feels So Good" is an upbeat song about a fading love.

We could dance our tears away
    Emancipate ourselves
We'll cry later or cry now but baby
    Heartbreak feels so good

Sometimes in relationships, emotions can shift. Here, singer Patrick Stump gives encouragement to those nearing the end of a romance. Though you might feel tempted to hold on, the pain of heartbreak ultimately makes one feel more alive. The thought that the suffering we endure will ultimately lead to growth can be a comfort.
  • Fall Out Boy released "Heartbreak Feels So Good" as the second single from So Much (For) Stardust. Both this song and the preceding single, "Love From The Other Side," have a similar theme of pain being part of the healing process from heartache.
  • The song's music video begins with a bungled kidnapping of Weezer's Rivers Cuomo. The Fall Out Boy band members then spend the rest of the clip trying to evade Weezer fans. "Fall Out Boy decided to film a prank in their new music video," the band wrote on social media. "It did not go as planned." The clip has been compared to Benny Blanco's for "Bad Decisions."

Whitey McConnaughy directed the video. He's known for his goofy videos for the likes of Cobra Starship ("The City Is At War"), Red Fang ("Prehistoric Dog") and The Menzingers ("America (You're Freaking Me Out)."
  • Neal Avron produced the song along with the rest of the So Much (For) Stardust album. He was previously behind the desk for Fall Out Boy's From Under the Cork Tree (2005), Infinity on High (2007) and Folie à Deux (2008) albums.
  • Fall Out Boy played the song live in public for the first time on January 25, 2023, when they performed it during an intimate homecoming show at Chicago's Metro club for the venue's 40th anniversary.
