Songfacts®:

  • "Perfect Stranger" is a song that revels in the sheer exhilaration of fleeting connection, with FKA Twigs celebrating the exquisite beauty of not knowing the person you're dancing with.

"'Perfect Stranger' is about when you meet someone and you think you're surely the most perfect human that ever existed, so long as I know nothing about you," Twigs told BBC Radio 1's Jack Saunders.

For Twigs, there's an almost magical allure in projecting your hopes onto someone you barely know, who remains, in that moment, flawless by virtue of their very anonymity.
  • FKA Twigs wrote and produced the sultry song alongside Stargate, Koreless, and Ojivolta.

Stargate is a producer and songwriter team comprising Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel S. Eriksen. Formed in 1997 in Trondheim, Norway, they work primarily in pop, R&B, and hip hop genres. They have produced many hit songs for major artists like Ne-Yo ("So Sick"), Rihanna ("Unfaithful") and Katy Perry ("Firework").

Koreless, born Lewis Roberts, is a Welsh electronic musician, DJ, and producer who is known for blending elements of ambient and contemporary classical music. He is a frequent Twigs collaborator, co-producing nine tracks on her 2022 Caprisongs album.

Ojivolta is a writer/producer duo from Pennsylvania and Miami comprising Mark Williams and Raul Cubina. Their resumé includes Shawn Mendes' "If I Can't Have You," The Weeknd's "Timeless" and 19 tracks on Kanye West's Donda album.
  • Musically, "Perfect Stranger" opens with a shimmering electronic texture, gradually settling into a smooth, pulsating beat. It's a noticeably poppier, more dance-oriented turn for Twigs compared to her earlier, more introspective work on her LP1 and Magdalene albums.
  • The video, directed by London-based photographer and videographer Jordan Hemingway, cranks up the surrealism. In it, Twigs slips into various roles, joining couples in elaborate dance sequences, creating a cinematic ode to connection and detachment alike. It features cameos from Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Killing Eve, No Time To Die) and US musician Yves Tumor.
  • "Perfect Stranger" is the second single from Twigs' third album, Eusexua. The song's shift towards dance aligns with the album's concept of exploring moments of transcendence through art, music, and unity. Twigs has cited her experiences in the underground techno scene of Prague while filming The Crow as a major inspiration for the album.
  • FKA Twigs recorded an official Simlish version of "Perfect Stranger" in collaboration with The Sims 4. It plays on the Pop Station radio inside the Enchanted by Nature pack.

The in-game music video shows a fairy-Sims version of Twigs performing the song, while playing matchmaker for couples in the Innisgreen world of the game.
