Songfacts®:

  • Frontwoman of Florence + the Machine, Florence Welch, and rapper Dizzee Rascal joined forces to perform this mash-up of their hit singles "You've Got the Love" and "Dirtee Cash" live at the February 16th 2010 BRITS ceremony. Released online the following morning, the track entered the UK Singles Chart at #2, behind Helping Haiti's "Everybody Hurts."
  • Proceeds from the track went directly to the BRITS trust, meaning that the Top 2 singles in the song's first UK chart week were both charity records.
  • This was the fifth version of "You Got The Love" to reach the UK Top 10. Previously, The Source featuring Candi Staton made the top level of the chart in February 1991, March 1997 and February 2006 and Florence and the Machine peaked at #2 in January 2010.
  • This was the first genuinely live recording to hit the Top 3 of the UK singles chart since "Satan (Live)" by Orbital peaked at #3 in January 1997. The previous live single to reach #1 was the "Five Live EP" by George Michael and Queen, which topped the charts in 1993.
  • Rascal told The NME June 5, 2010 about working with Florence Welch: "If you don't get on with Florence there's a problem with you, man- she's one of those people, bro. She's genuinely one of the nicest people I've ever met. It was great to find a point where we could blend our styles-it worked well."
