Songfacts®:

  • "Stick" is Atlanta slang for an assault rifle. Future unashamedly brags here about the new gun he is going to buy with his riches, even though his entire hood is being watched by the authorities as they're known for their "stick talk" (gun threats).
  • The Eif Rivera-directed clip shows Future performing the track through various dilapidated, dimly lit locations, while the police cruise the periphery.
  • American swimmer Michael Phelps won five gold medals and one silver at the Rio Olympics in 2016, giving him a record 23 gold medals and 28 total for his career. In the pool area, he was always seen with headphones on until just before competition, and would sometimes develop a concentrated stare as he got into the zone.

Despite many queries, he didn't say what song he was listening to that gave him this tight mental focus until a month later when he appeared at the MTV Video Music Awards and revealed that the mystery song was "Stick Talk" by Future. Phelps then introduced the rapper, saying, "I might have all the golds, but this guy's got all the platinum."
