I Just Wanna Live

Album: The Chronicles Of Life And Death (2004)
Charted: 9 51

Songfacts®:

  • This is a satirical look at how rock stars complain about how tough their lives are.
  • In 2005, Sony apologized for its role in a payola scandal, an illegal practice of rewarding radio stations with cash or gifts in return for playing certain songs, which in turn inflates chart positions. In addition to songs by Maroon 5, Avril Lavigne and Jennifer Lopez, the label was pushing Good Charlotte's "I Just Wanna Live" and "Hold On."
  • The lyrics reference the band's first big hit, "Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous," which skewered the frivolous Hollywood elite and later caused critics to cry hypocrite when the band became famous themselves:

    Got an interview
    With the Rolling Stone
    They're saying
    "Now you're rich and
    Now you're famous
Fake ass girls all know your name and
'Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous'
Your first hit, aren't you ashamed?"

  • Jacob from Chicago, IlGC is awsome this a a better song from 2004 and that wasent a good year for music arties
  • Brittany from Townsville, AustraliaReally I love this song coz it is so f*ckin awsome but I love the clip more coz when ever I think of it I feel like pizza coz pizza is nice but back to the subject I'm learnin the guitar and when i get really really good at it I jus wanna learn some GC, Simple Plan, Fall out Boy and Panic(!) at the Disco songs coz they are all awsome bands. (Also i think Billy Martin looks so hot in this clip coz Strawberrys are awsome)
  • Bethanii from Okc, Oki love this. its a great song. and how the hell would u people kno if their lives suck or not. im sure they mite think they do and they really dont but it really could suck to be famous and have to deal with all the crap that people say about them like u fakrrs. gah. get over urselves. go slam someone else's music.
  • Briana from Greensboro , NcMarc, wtf Good CHarlotte is one of the best bands yet. Get a clue!
  • Ang from St. Louis, MoHehe! I think the second verse is funny when it goes "I rock a law suit when I'm going to court. A white suit when I'm geting divorced. A black suit in the funeral home and my birthday suit when I'm home alone." Lol, I like this song. The orchestra instruments in the background make it sound cool. This song isn't my favorite out of the others but it is a great song.
  • Matt from Milton, PaMilah, it is said in the song about Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. Here is the quote from the song:

"They're saying now you're rich and now you're famous, fake a** girls all know your name and..
Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, your first hit aren't you ashamed..."
  • Sherine from Guwahati, IndiaThis is absolutely not music.
After i heard this noise i swore not to hear any songs from good charlotte.
  • Scott from Canton, OhI have to admit I tried to hate Good Charlotte, but could not. My girlfriends name is Charlotte, and I thought she just liked them for the name. This was the first song I liked by them because the guitar riff is catchy. After listening to this CD like 50 times I actaully started to like. it. They are not the most musically talented group, but the guitarist is pretty good, and there music is catchy. Not a huge fan, but can't hate. Also they have a decent message. To all Hater's... yea pretty much your mad because they are rich. They can say whatever the hell they want, get over it.
  • Shannon Mulvany from Spokane, WaEven though I like them, this is their worst song.
  • Andrew from Adelaide, Australiathis song i think is about the most annoying group of people in the world that just stalk celebrities and literally spy on them in their own home and pretty much live their lives off of someone elses , the paparatzi i hate them soo much i think they should all leave celebreties alone and go burn in hell , good song tho lol
  • Milah from Long Beach, CaUmm...this song IS kinda catchy and the music video is cute HOWEVER...I don't understand how they can release this after Lifestyles of the rich and famous...doesnt that make them hypocrits?
  • Marc from Niagara Falls, Canadai hate good charlotte......soooo terrible and hey if there complainin bout how rockstars and rich complain they shud take a look at them selfs all they do is complain and its not punk to date hilary duff.
  • Rebka from Crapville, WyI love this song!! It's really catchy.
  • Natalie from Spokane, United StatesIROCKALAWSUIT.That word is my cousin's and my "anthem". This is a good song, The music video is funny, and creative.
  • Melissa from Toledo, OhI love GC and this song rocks. And to anyone who thinks they sold out...they didn't they ever will they are some of the best guys in the world and they rock!
  • Cheval from Sugar Hill, Ga OK,umm I don't like GC that much anymore, but I know a lot about them. I Just Wanna Live is really about how Joel sees people who have passed on. Not like ghosts & stuff, but spirits. (He sees through the barrier bettween the real world & the other side.)
  • AnonymousWhat are you talking about??????????Good Charlotte rocks and the fact that they are sharing their lives freely with you mean that they want to be honest. Incase you haven't noticed, especially in the US, honesty isn't exactly ur STRONG point. So why don't you grow up and realise unless you have neva told a lie in your life then you have no reason to complain about the music video and the lyrics!
    Anon-Jo'burg(the best place on earth!!!!!!)
  • Jen from Westville, NjIll admit that i dont like good charrlote, but i loved the music video. Any thing that makes fun of both Ashlee Simpson and Paris Hilton at the same time is alright in my mind.
  • Casie from Denver, CoHave you guys seen on the lyrics their missing a part after "Stop ur messin around boy" well after that verse their missing

Now we get expect it everywhere that we go
All the things that they say
    Yeah we already know

Well whatever,I posted the mistake already. later...
  • Casie from Denver, CoOk im back,i checked out what i wrote last time but now well this song to me,it means that there are ppl who are just so ignorant,i mean celeberities, they think their better than anyone else in this world because they have money. Good Charlotte is actually realizing their mistakes, when I heard the part, lifestyles of the rich and the famous,ur first hit, arent u ashamed of the life ur living. Well what their trying to say is that they have money, they admit oviously but their not gonna treat themselves better than others cause were all human beings from the rich and the poor. *Peace Out*
  • John from Sydney, AustraliaI COMPLETELY agree with what the person who has called themselves "C" has said. When I heard the line "lifestyles of the rich and famous your first hit aren't you ashamed" my mind immediatly ticked back to their earlier song "Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous". There is definitly a huge amount of irony in Good Charlotte recieving so much fame and forture from that song.
  • Kathy from Melbourne, AustraliaThey started a band and make the music they like and apparently other people like it too and they buy good charlotte's music and became fans of them. They said their lives WERE bad, their dad left them at 16 they didn't own a house they lived in neighbour's property. And not much clothes at all. They work really hard and have multiple jobs. Benji and Joel's mum walked to work and gave her car for them to use to tour. They had a tough life and now they're making money it's an accomplishment.
  • Charlotte from Chicago, IlGC Is so inspiring! i wish i could go 2 another 1 of ther concerts!
  • C from Vic, AustraliaI thought this song was a response to their earlier one 'lifestyles of the rich and famous'. In that song, they complain about rich people always complaining. I think that song got them alot of attention so they wrote this song as a response to the irony.

The lyrics in this song talk about an interview they have with Rolling Stone mag where the interviewer asks them if they're ashamed of the song Lifestyles now that they are rich and famous (they even sing it in the background)
  • Sabrina from Montreal, CanadaI love this song its my favourite song from good charlotte's cd "Chronicles of Life and Death." It's a great song!!
  • Casie from Denver, CoI love GC,they helped me through my rough times and they really inspire me. I love em and met them twice.
  • Aj from Cleveland, GaGood Charlotte is a sellout band and this helped them to do just that.
  • Rach from Norfolk, EnglandThis song was written by Good Charlotte to take the mick out of themselves and also to take the mick out of the media who have nothing better todo then to spread rumors about people who are in the spot light. GC wanted to show people that they are just ordinary people who live to. they wanted this song to make them seem more human. t is a laugh with a serious meaning behind it. Just get on with your lifes, you know what you have done and what you can do so don't let anyone get in the way of achieving your goals, just live to do the things you want to do.
  • Matt from Millbrae, CaOh come on. "Our lives suck...we're rich and get paid to play guitar all day". Heads up, guys. Your life doesn't suck. Your music does, but not your life. The last song to work with the "woe is me" theme is You Know You're Right by Nirvana.
  • Anele from Joburg, South Africai love this song , its really good , my friends and i just rock to it when we hear it ,specially the second verse so kicks ass, so ja eat fish whoever does not like this song ,cow
