Songfacts®:

  • "Hell" is Hardy and Blake Shelton's celebration of blue-collar country life, where clocking off at the end of the work week signals the start of some serious weekend mischief. The song follows a working man heading straight into his time off: picking up a 12-pack, tearing down backroads, cranking up country music in his truck, and tailgating until sunrise. It's a determined attempt to make Monday morning feel as far away as possible.
  • While the title plays on the idea of raising hell, the lyrics make clear the characters still show up for Sunday service. They might indulge in a little weekend recklessness, but that does not mean they have turned their backs on their faith or traded away their place in heaven. The theme fits right into a recurring motif in Hardy's catalog, echoing previous releases like "Give Heaven Some Hell" and "Unapologetically Country As Hell."
  • Hardy and Shelton have a deep history as creative partners. Hardy co-wrote two of Shelton's biggest hits, "God's Country" and "Hell Right," which share a similar earthy, rowdy spirit. He also co-wrote Shelton's tracks "Come Back As A Country Boy" and "Let Him In Anyway."
  • Hardy wrote "Hell" alongside Zach Abend, Kyle Clark, and Jeb Gipson. Abend is one of Hardy's closest creative partners, having previously co-written "Boyfriend" and "Favorite Country Song," as well as Shelton's "Let Him In Anyway."
  • Hardy and Shelton recorded "Hell" for Sides, a four-track EP running roughly 14 minutes, which Hardy surprise-released on October 30, 2026. Hardy co-wrote all four tracks on the record, with "Hell" serving as the project's lone featured guest appearance.
