Songfacts®:

  • Holger Behn is a German DJ and producer who records under the name of Hosh. When the Venice-born, Amsterdam based producer 1979 sent him a sparse and emotive instrumental, Hosh pictured James Newton Howard's Hunger Games song "The Hanging Tree" on top of it. It turned out to be a perfect fit; the producer made his adjustments and recruited London singer Jalja to record the vocals. Released via Ministry of Sound and Three Six Zero Recordings on January 10, 2020 under the title "Midnight (Hanging Tree)," it became the first UK Top 40 hit for all three artists.
  • Icelandic director Erlendur Sveinsson shot the post-apocalyptic music video outside of Reykjavik over one long day. The clip shows a woman braving a violent snowstorm to deliver a vaccine to her sister. An enigmatic motorcyclist helps her retrieve the supplies from a car wreck and an abandoned house.
