  • Just as TLC brought "scrub" into the lexicon to describe a no-good man, the New York City drill rapper Ice Spice gave us "munch," a similarly scathing term.

What is a munch? It's guy so desperate, he's in the habit of performing oral sex on women who don't reciprocate. Also known as an "eater."
  • Raised in the Bronx, Ice Spice (Isis Gaston) went to college at SUNY Purchase, where she met producer RiotUSA. Using his beats, she started releasing songs in 2021 and caught a big break in 2022 when "Munch (Feelin' U)" found a following on social media, taking off on TikTok and Twitter thanks to the line, "You thought I was feeling you?" which proved quite meme-worthy.
  • Speaking with Rolling Stone, Ice Spice talked about how this song came about: "I was recording in my room, and I was like, 'Let me make a song fast. As fast as possible.' I was like, 'How can I describe a desperate man that wants to eat it all the time?' And I was just, like, munch. He's a munch."

"'Munch' is bringing out he fun in drill," she added. "It was a little serious before, a little violent sometimes, which is cool. I be bumping that rah-rah s--t all day. But 'Munch' definitely brought out the zesty side of it. I want everybody to feel like a baddie.
  • The song caught the attention of Drake, whose message Ice Spice shared on her Instagram: "That 'Munch' and your 'On The Radar' freestyle hard. Imma play em on our radio show."

Drake kept his word, playing it on his OVO Sound show on SiriusXM.
  • Cardi B wrote a verse for "Munch" but scrapped it because she got anxious.

"I love the record," she explained to Complex. "I did not like how I sound. You know it being on a drill beat, it's not as easy as it look... I was like, 'They're gonna drag me and they're going to drag the song bad.'"
