Songfacts®:

  • Ed Sheeran and J Balvin first met in a New York gym in 2021 when the English singer recognized the Colombian reggaeton star's voice from a phone call. He introduced himself and they had a coffee together, then continued chatting over lunch and afternoon tea. The pair arranged a day in the studio when Sheeran visited New York at Christmas for some shows. That studio session led to much more, including an EP containing the first two songs they wrote: "Forever My Love" and "Sigue."
  • While "Sigue" is signature Balvin, "Forever My Love" is more Sheeran's world. A slow acoustic-led ballad with melodic harmonies, it finds the pair promising their lover they will be forever together.
  • Sheeran sings all his lines in Spanish, having learned the language for their collaborations. The English singer-songwriter first dabbled in Latin music with his "Shape Of You" remix featuring the reggaeton duo Zion & Lennox. He later teamed up with Camila Cabello on the bilingual hit "Bam Bam."
  • Sheeran and Balvin wrote "Forever My Love" with:

Reggaeton singer-songwriter Justin Quiles. His other writing credits include "Pierde Los Modales" by J Balvin featuring Daddy Yankee, and "Bichota" by Karol G, where he also did backing vocals.

Colombian songwriter Keityn, who contributed to such hits as Maluma's "Hawái," Karol G and Nicki Minaj's "Tusa," and J Balvin and Tainy's "Agua."

Haiti-born DJ and producer Michael Brun. He's worked with Balvin on several of his songs, including "Azul" and "Arcoiris."

Justin Quiles and Keityn also co-wrote "Sigue."
  • Michael Brun and Ed Sheeran co-produced "Forever My Love."
  • The black-and-white video, directed by frequent Balvin collaborator José Emilio Sagaró, shows the two superstars performing the song together in the studio.
