Songfacts®:

  • Here, a heartbroken Maluma sings of his feelings when his ex-wife posts some photos on Instagram. They show her on holiday in Hawaii with her new man, and he has to admit she looks happy. However, Maluma still insists she'd be better off with him.
  • Miky La Sensa, Juan Camilo Vargas, Chan El Genio and Bull Nene wrote the song during a song camp in Hawaii. The songwriters are longtime collaborators of Maluma, so when their demo reached songwriter/producer Edgar Barrera, he played it to him and he immediately fell in love with the intro chorus and penned a verse to go with it.

Maluma told Billboard, "It's a very real song, very from the heart, with good lyrics, and good content."
  • Ily Wonder, Jowan, Keityn, and Kevin ADG and Chan El Genio produced the song. The latter two are the Medellín-based production duo the Rude Boyz, who have worked with Maluma since his first album.
  • This was one of the first songs Maluma recorded for his fifth album, Papi Juancho. When he finished recording it he called his management and told them, "Boys, I have the first single." Released on July 27, 2020, it topped the charts in several countries including Argentina, Colombia, Mexico and Spain.
  • The Papi Juancho title is a reference to Maluma's Colombian nickname. He explained the story behind his alter ego to OLT News:

"My family, they all call me Juancho (his birth name is Juan Luis Londoño Arias). I always say 'Grandpa' so one day when I was looking for a caption for the first campaign I did with Calvin Klein I was like, 'Wow, I need a great caption that can work with these photos.' Then I started talking with the team and they were like, 'Your name is Juancho and you love to say papi, so why don't you mix the two together?'"
  • Maluma performed the song on August 30, 2020 at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards.
  • Dominican film and music video director Jessy Terrero shot the video in Miami. We see Maluma breaking up with his girlfriend, portrayed by model Yovanna Ventura. Maluma then crashes her wedding ceremony in order to win her back.
  • Maluma dropped the song's remix with another artist known for steamy jams. The Weeknd joins the self-described "dirty boy" on the urban bop to croon lyrics in both English and Spanish about a woman who's putting on an act for social media. This marks the first time the Canadian singer has sung in Spanish.
  • The Weeknd told Billboard Yovanna Venturais is a close friend of his, and when she played him the song he fell in love with it. The Canadian singer was considering doing something for the Latin market so he "reached out and it was an easy answer from me when I was asked to get on the track."
  • Terrero also directed the remix video. Filmed in Los Angeles, it features both Maluma and The Weeknd.
