  • James Marriott was born in Switzerland but grew up in Buckinghamshire, England. His father was a pianist, which led to him and his sister taking piano lessons, although he quit after it got too competitive.
  • Marriott was a theater kid. He took part in amateur productions of Oliver! and Bugsy Malone as a child.
  • Marriott's interest in music began after attending an ABBA tribute concert as a child.

"I pointed to the bassist and went 'I want to do that.' My dad was like, no chance, and bought me a guitar instead," he recalled to Dork. "So I bought a Beatles book and went through it almost immediately. It was quite natural for me, playing guitar. After I got through that book, I just started writing my own music; there was no in-between."
  • Before focusing on music, Marriott gained popularity through YouTube commentary videos and Twitch livestreams. He continues to maintain a strong online presence alongside his music career.
  • Marriott launched his independent music career in 2020 with the release of his debut single, "Slow Down." His debut album, Are We There Yet? (2023), peaked at #17 on the UK Albums Chart.
  • Mental health is a recurring theme in James Marriott's music. In his album Are We There Yet?, Marriott explores themes of personal growth, breaking cycles, and dealing with emotional struggles.

Marriott has taken part in discussions about mental health, appearing in a video titled Mental health: Am I doing this right? where he talks about depression and related topics.
  • He enjoys playing chess to keep his mind sharp and engaged creatively.
  • James Marriott's songs originate from a constant stream of ideas he captures in his notes app and voice recorder. "The good ideas will annoy me unless I immediately work on them," he told The Sun. "I then enter writing weeks with my bandmates and my producer Aleksi Kiiskinen, and we write completely new works or develop pre-existing ideas any of us have."
